Divisions
The UMD School of Music comprises seven academic and performance divisions, which oversee curriculum, ensembles, and special programs within their designated areas.
Divisions lend organizational structure to the School while providing natural learning communities for students. Division-specific activities are common throughout the year, including seminars, meetings, and recitals. In addition to supporting their own students, these units also foster collaboration across the School through cross-division curriculum and activities.
The School of Music does not support individual "departments" within the seven divisions, but numerous division-specific offices, labs and programs are recognized, e.g. the Office of Choral Activities, the Music Technology Lab, and the National Orchestral Institute.
