MASTER OF ARTS GRADUATES

Congratulations to our Spring 2020 Master of Arts Graduates:

Marcus Hansel Daniel
M.A. in Music Education

Written by Mike Hewitt:

A husband, businessman, jazz pianist, devoted Christian…congratulations, you now add the title, Master of Arts. I will recall fondly the stories you passionately shared during thesis meetings about musicians learning jazz in India and as others read this ground-breaking document they will be inspired and learn much. Godspeed, Marcus! Num 6:24-26.

Stephanie Fernsler
M.A. in Music Education

Written by Mike Hewitt:

Clearly, Steph, you have a fervent desire and heart to reach people, especially kids, in all you do as a music teacher, church choir conductor, and lover of Disney musicals. No doubt, your well-researched thesis on the attributes of successful rural music programs, will prepare you to reach your future Coloradoan students with that same desire.

Debra Marion Livant Nakos
M.A. in Musicology

Written by Barbara Haggh-Huglo:

Debra—mother, flutist, harpist, programmer (IBM), software engineer (Lockheed-Martin; Leidos)—began with theory then turned to musicology at UMD. Her keen eye and diligence led to her convincing thesis (M.A.) that the composer Robert Carvor wrote the 16th-century Scottish “Art of Music.” For her Ph.D., Debra will analyze early music with computers.
