DEGREES

The University of Maryland School of Music provides a world-class, professional musical education within the context of a liberal arts college and a major research university. Multiple undergraduate and graduate degrees allow students to pursue music as artists, scholars and educators.

A Real-World Education for Life Beyond the Practice Room

As part of the College of Arts and Humanities, we offer undergraduate and graduate musicians superior performance training, while emphasizing the importance of the combined scholar, performer, educator and arts advocate in the 21st century. Our graduates enter the professional world with command of their art form, prepared to build a career in the arts and eager to nurture creative expression for the future.

Undergraduate Programs

Our undergraduate degrees (B.A., B.M. and B.M.E.) and minor programs allow students to pursue music as a focused study and even declare a double major or major with minor.

Graduate Programs

Our graduate degrees (M.A., M.M., D.M.A. and Ph.D.) are designed for highly qualified students who seek to continue their study of music beyond the bachelor’s degree and within the context of a major research university.
