UMD SUMMER CHORUS

UMD Summer Chorus is offered to anyone in high school or above who likes to sing—with no audition required! Attendees include potential and current School of Music students, school alumni and members of the community.

For three weeks in June and/or July, UMD Summer Chorus rehearses and performs a major choral work with a professional orchestra and soloists. Led by one or more of the talented graduate students in the choral conducting program, past performances have included Mozart’s Requiem, Haydn’s Harmoniemesse, Duruflé’s Requiem and Orff’s Carmina Burana.

In 2022, the UMD Summer Chorus hosted a sing-along event of Haydn’s Creation. It was a re-entry into singing in a post-pandemic world.

In 2023, Summer Chorus performed a program of Handel, Vaughan Williams and Mozart. The event was extremely popular, and we are thrilled that participation reflected pre-pandemic norms.

Most recently, David Mann and Trevor Tran, two of our talented graduate students, directed Fauré’s Requiem and Fanny Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang and Hiob.

Summer chorus will return this year with Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy and Brahms’ Schicksalslied and Nänie, directed by Trevor Tran and Mary Shea Kealey Kustas.
