Nicole Powlison received her master’s and a doctorate in historical musicology from the Florida State University. Her dissertation, “Amy Beach’s Cabildo: An American Opera,” presents a historical context and critical edition of the composer’s unpublished opera. Powlison's research interests also include the history of opera in the United States, the history of music publishing, music history pedagogy and music of the medieval and Renaissance eras. She lectures on popular music, American music, music research skills, and other topics in music history at University of Maryland and Catholic University of America, and is an administrator for Amadeus Concerts, a non-profit orchestra in Northern Virginia.
