Student Degree Recital: William Hernandez D.M.A. horn lecture recital

School of Music Monday, April 20, 2026 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, Tawes Hall, Ulrich Recital Hall

ABOUT THE EVENT

Hi everyone! Welcome to my lecture recital. I am super excited to play this music for you and to collaborate with some fantastic people. It has been a joy figuring out the direction of this recital as it has evolved from the original idea at least one hundred times! (literally)

For my lecture recital, I will give a brief overview of how the horn is used collaboratively across different ensemble styles. For the performance portion, I will perform pieces with non-standard collaborations across different styles and assess their effectiveness in performance.

My goal as a musician, as far back as I can remember, has always been to go against the "standard" respectfully and show that there is always more to offer outside the box. I like to put my identity into everything I do and every program I create, so it can be a personal experience for both me and the audience.

Please come! Experience! And enjoy music with me!

REPERTOIRE

Gina Gillies: Pale Blue Dot
Drew Philips: Songs of Joy
Ryan O'Connell: Remembering the Future
Valerie Crescenz: Rivers
arr. James L. Stevens: Nearer My God to Thee
