CANCELED: Balinese Gamelan

Directed by I Nyoman Suadin, the UMD Gamelan Saraswati Ensemble features two different styles of Balinese music: the explosive gamelan gong kebyar and the more delicate ceremonial gamelan anklung. This shimmering percussion music from the Indonesian island of Bali showcases complex interlocking rhythms often performed in tandem with the delicate motions and multifaceted expressions of Balinese dance. This performance will feature guest musicians and dancers from the Indonesian Embassy.
