Classical pianist Merzana Kostreci performs her M.M. graduation recital with a versatile and colorful choice of repertoire. The program opens with Beethoven’s "Appassionata," which displays classical form, but is a romantic work in essence. All works after the intermission can be characterized as program music (music which takes inspiration from non-musical narratives). Three movements from Albeniz's "Suite Española" op. 47 represent various regions and dances of Spain. Maurice Ravel’s "Ondine," inspired by poetry of Aloysius Bertrand, depicts the seduction of a water nymph. Finally, the recital closes with one of the most popular piano works, inspired by Gypsy motives: Franz Liszt’s "Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2."
